Email: Comments: My first six months in country were under the command of Lt Col Billy Jack Carter. Lt Col Carter was replaced by Lt Col Canty Chambers in December 1968. I was assigned to base law enforcement, base security and customs inspections during my tour of duty. I was an A1C. A highlight of my tour was pulling guard duty on the residence of General George Brown, Commander 7th Air Force and later to be Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Brown exited his residence, I saluted, he the same, and he spoke a greeting directly to me and that has stuck with me ever since. When he became Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, I told my wife, "I guarded General Brown in Vietnam and he actually spoke to me." Pretty big deal for a 19 year old kid. Never been able to make connection with fellow airmen. I recognize names of TSgt Philip Moon, Sgt Robert Bacon, Tom Bullock and others I remember, Ron Sloser and Gary Wedwick. From the east main entrance to our squadron area, my barracks was the second on the right second floor. I attended a 377th SPS union in 2011 in Branson, Missouri. None of the guys were there who I knew. It was primarily canine handlers. Enjoyed the visit. Thanks for what you do and thank you for your service. Thomas "Tom" Hagar

Email: Comments: I just received a message that my good friend Robert Sherman passed away on Wednesday, 14 November. Bob, a proud member of the 377th SPS, served at Tan Son Nhut from October 1968 to October 1969. Bob maintained a great web site that shows many photos and documents of TSN and Saigon from that time. It can be accessed at: http://www.bobshermanspage.com/Vietnam.html There will be a memorial service for him here in West Palm Beach, Florida next week. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend because I will be arriving at Tan Son Nhut around that time. I'll be sure to render a hand salute in the direction of the 377th SPS former compound in his honor. Paul A. Allard 460 AEMS 1967-1969

Email: Comments: My father is C.W. Rogers "Chuck" and he was the first handler of MIKE A675 in 1966 - 1967. I would like to add them to your site along with their pictures. After my dad became Kennel Master "MIKE" went on to serve three more handlers, that I know of (George C. Hedegard 9/67, Richard J. Shafer 9/67-1/68 and Chris L. Boutwell 4/68) before he was listed as euthanized, due to poor physical condition on March 24, 1970. Not sure what happened between 1968 - 1970 but would love to know (or maybe I don't). I also have many pictures of the 377th K-9, Air Police during 1966 - 1967. Training, cooking over an open fire with a bed frame as grates and what I believe is the base damage after the December 4-5, 1966 attack. I would love to share them. Dad had no idea what became of "MIKE" after they were separated and thanks to your site this Veterans Day, I get to tell him all the information I found! Christi R. Cryer

Email: Comments: Dear friends, My name is Sonny Silva and I am Vietnam combat veteran. I served with the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division in Tay Ninh Province from October 2, 1969 to October 12, 1970. Since 2010 I have served as the National Vice President and Historian of the 8th Cavalry Regiment Association. Last summer I helped Lou Reda Productions produce the documentary series "Vietnam in HD" for the History Channel. I assisted them with research, and with gathering and viewing personal film collections from other Vietnam veterans. The experience of working with Lou Reda Productions was extremely therapeutic and rewarding for me. (You can see their website at http://www.redafilms.com Currently, Lou Reda Productions is beginning work on another Vietnam program and I am again helping them gather home movie film collections to use in it. If you have color films that you shot at home or in Vietnam and you are interested in sharing them for a very worthwhile project, please write me back at the above email address. In exchange for granting Lou Reda Productions permission to use your home movies, they will transfer your films (8mm, super8 or 16mm) for free. They will clean your original film, put it through a high-resolution film scanner and then return your original films and a DVD copy to you to keep. If you do not have any films, but know someone who does, please pass along my contact information to anyone within your group. Also, if you are willing to put a post on your website to help get the word out, I would appreciate that as well. Thank you for your help. Email: Comments: I just read about this and I was there for Mini-TET, May 6, 1968, as you may have record of it on the blotter. My name is Robert Partridge, I was a SSgt at the time. I would certainly appreciate you sending me a copy of that blotter. I believe the Law Enforcement Desk Sgt (There was 2 seperate locations -one was for Security and the other Law Enforcement) was named Griswold but I think that there was more than one at a time. I was attached to the Law Enforcement section at the time. I began my tour a few weeks after the major Tet Offensive, I arrived in February 1968. I will really appreciate this. Thanks in advance, Bob

Email: Comments: Let me be one of the first to congratulate the Vietnam Security Police Association (VSPA) for a first class memorial ceremony for Sgt Bruce Dale Jones who was killed in the line of duty while assigned to the 377th Security Police Squadron at Tan Son Nhut, AB Vietnam in 1972. The VSPA took great steps to locate Sgt Jones' resting place after over 40 years since his death. The VSPA members rode up from their annual reunion in Ft Walton Beach, Florida to finally welcome Sgt Jones home. The whole community turned out for the ceremony including city and county officials. I wasn't able to attend the reunion but I only live about 90 miles away so I rode my Harley and invited some biker veteran friends to participate in the ride. Being a member of the 377th I was allowed to participate in laying the wreath. It was a humbling experience and brought back those feelings of camaraderie for my fellow warriors. We all showed up there as one with Sgt Jones. God Bless America. Garry Lee

Email: Comments: In the folklore of TSN History is the story of the "VC sniper" on top of the west Golf Ball, bldg 1016, "Paris Control" radome, 619th Tactical Control Squadron, during the Battle for TSN, 31 January 1968. In fact, that was the report received real-time by the 377th SPS alert blotter, MELVIN C. GROVER, 1/LT, USAF [per Chris Godfrey blotter, corroborated by Bill Ulrichny's blotter]: 77 - 1210hrs - WGC - INFO: Received information that sniper fire was coming from the Radar Dome East of Dinning Hall 2. FOX TROT QRT dispatched. 78 - 1215hrs - WGC - INFO: Received information that 01 VC KIA in the Radar Dome. Additional information logged by William J. (Bill) Ulrichny, Base Police desk blotter for 31 January 1968, indicates the individual on the radome was Sgt. Thomas Lee Klinzing, AF 15713817, 619th TCS. The following was recently posted on the internet: Posted By: J. Craig (Whitey) White, Lt Col USAF, (Ret.) "I was at the radar site the day Sgt Klinzing was killed. I was also one of two officers who climbed up the radar tower at Paris Control RVN to recover his body. Later I was given a letter from his mother to reply back to after he was killed. He was a brave and loyal Airman. Sgt Klinzing was shot in the head by either the enemy or friendly fire. It was early morning and dark. Sgt Klinzing was manning his defensive post up on the ledge of the radar tower. Because it was dark and we were being over run there was mass confusion. We brought the body down and that was the last I heard anything about the incident, because we were still in the middle of what has come to be called the "Tet Offensive". Hope this answers your question..." Lt Col Craig White, USAF (Ret.) A 619th TCS "Paris Control" co-worker of Sgt Klinzing posted the following in 2008: "One sniper in particular was wounding our guys all day long who were trying to get to the chow hall down the road just a block away. We were told to stay down where it was safer. We were still manning the search radar in the tower. One of the troops, a Sgt. Tom Klinzing got out on the catwalk to get a shot at the sniper or snipers that were on the building outside the base - a girl's school {abandon orphanage?}, I believe. Anyway, Tom gave his life and there was no more sniping going on after that." Dennis Smith Coloma, CA

Sgt Thomas Lee Klinzing was on the radome catwalk, armed with a weapon, and was subsequently fatally wounded by an unidentified person [enemy or friendly?]. Sgt Klinzing's purpose, thinking, or specific actions on the radome catwalk that day cannot be positively determined. Fog-of-war. Email: Comments: Hello, I was an Air Force Law Enforcement Patrolman (Sgt) at Tan Son Nhut, Jan - Dec 1972. I have many fond memories of the 377th SPS. After Vietnam, I ended up spending almost thirty years in the Air Force. I retired in 1997 as an Air Force Lt Col. Just some memories: At Tan Son Nhut, I remember the 24 hour games of Spades in our Barracks in the SP compound. I recall bottles of Jim Beam, cases of coke to help pass the time. I remember how the OSI dorm always smelled odd (for some reason). I remember the Mexican Resturant (La Casa Grande) on base. I loved driving the open M-151 jeeps while on patrol. Roaches in my soup at the Snooty French Officer's club. I remember Ian and Lee'an, my friends, that worked at the BX concession. I remember town patrol with the Army Military Police, in downtown Saigon. They drove madly though the streets with their radio blarring and their attenna's whipping. I remember the smell and experience of Hop Cabs. I remember the Saigon nightlife where all the "girls" wanted me to "Take them go America" with promises of all that young girls can do for GI's. I remember how during the rocket attacks some of the Vietnamese would walk around like it was raining. We Americans took cover. ,br>I remember the myths about Gorillas on the bunker and tower line that would climb your tower and beat you if you fell asleep on the line. I recall the story of the ghost of the wife of an old dead French soldier. She walked the perimenter in search of her husband. You could see her on moonlit nights. I remember the fierce reputation of the South Koreans and how the South Vietnamese would not mess with these guys. Well ... enough for now, I will try to add a picture to your site.. Thanks for your time and trouble of putting this site together. Go Air Force!!! Dennis R. Harris LtCol AF Retired

Email: Comments: I was a member of Echo Sector during the "Tet Offensive" but went TDY to Vung Tau, where we were guarding Caribou cargo aircraft. My best buddy in Echo Sector was Alan D. Tucker, who was wounded by the VC that night while manning Tango-4. We were hit by a mortar attack. But when I was sent from Tan Son Nhut, to Vung Tau, I took a Sgt's place and he took my place in my unit, Echo sector. When I went back to Tan Son Nhut, after the TDY. I understood that particular Sgt, who took my place in "Echo Sector," was on the old French Bunker, known as the O-51 Bunker, along the primeter barb wire fence line. They say he was killed there. I was also told when I got back to my unit that an African-American, who was an E-4 was also on that bunker and he escaped and was wounded possibly by a bayonet. Who was he and is he still alive? When and where is the next meeting for the 377th Security Police reunion. I might like to go? Email: Comments: I was stationed at TSN in 1971. My hooch was just across the street from the SPS Armory and down the street from an old French fort. Every night when I came home from the O-Club (sometimes a tad loaded) there would be an SPS airman on guard at the the gate to my hooch compound. I would usually stop and talk with them for a while before I hit the rack. They were all good guys and I became friends with several of them. I'm sure it was against regs but a couple times they let me ride with them in a M-151 jeep on a patrol of the TSN perimeter. One time I went along with an airman on a hunt for stray dogs that were causing problems on the base. It reminded me of coyote hunting back home in Wyoming...we came back with three (I think) dead dogs across the hood and, as I remember, the airman was rewarded with a 3-day pass. When I was at the out-country terminal waiting to board my freedom bird one of them came over to tell me good-by and wish me a safe trip....I have never forgotten this and it's the high point of my RVN tour. I was assigned to the 1964th Comm Group and made a lot of friends there but some of my warmest memories are of the 377th SPS guys that I met at the gate to my hooch compound. I'm hoping that some them read your website and remember talking (and putting up) with me. Tim Nousi Former Captain, USAF
