Mauro "Tony" Bott, 80, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012.

Visitation with family will be held 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, at Resthaven Mortuary.  A rosary will be said at 10 a.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., both on Friday, June 8, at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Derby.

Tony was retired Air Force, serving in Korea and Vietnam and the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Santa Bott; two brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Bott; children, Elizabeth (Randy) Mowery of Lawrence, Joseph (Angela) Bott of Derby; grandchildren, Amy Mowery, Brent Mowery, Tanner Bott, Morgan Bott; and one expected great-grandchild, Avery Elizabeth Cooper.

Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.

Deputy Bott was one of two officers shot and wounded and Detective Vance Johnson was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend an escaped prisoner who had shot and wounded a Wichita detective.

Two other deputies were also shot and wounded during the arrest.

Mauro Bott, 43, a sheriff's civil service employee who was shot twice in the chest.

The suspect escaped the scene but was eventually caught and sentenced to life in prison.
